The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is the only international wildlife refuge in North America. The refuge includes islands, coastal wetlands, marshes, shoals, and waterfront lands along 48 miles of Detroit River and Western Lake Erie shorelines. Stop by the John D. Dingell Jr. Visitor Center as you begin your visit.

Visitor Activities: - Experience the interactive visitor center exhibits;
- Fish the Detroit River on the 700 foot long fishing pier;
- Walk over three miles of trails (dogs permitted on leash);
- Sit quietly as you enjoy the vista of Humbug Marsh, Michigan’s only Wetland of International Importance;
- Participate in family friendly nature programming;
- Bring a picnic lunch and stay for awhile;
- Use the accessible kayak launch; and
- Find your "Nearby Nature!"
